A Quarter Of Review
A Quarter Of is a retro online sweetshop with a truly nostalgic range of sweets that will certainly bring back memories. Anyone for Kola Kubes, Golf Balls or Mini Love Hearts? A Quarter Of has these and 650 others available with which to indulge your sweet tooth.
This is the old-fashioned sweetshop transferred online and seems to have something for everyone with personalised gifts, wedding favours and corporate gift options available. You can also get sweets that are sugar free, gelatine free and gluten free.
Visiting the site will certainly make you smile – it’s like taking a walk down memory lane with a big bag of sweets in your hand. If you have an opinion on A Quarter Of and you’d like to share it, please submit it here.
Customers of A Quarter Of liked the wide range of sweets available, the quality of the products and the efficiency of delivery. They thought the gift boxes were great – allowing customers to choose by flavour, colour or theme. Particularly popular was the facility to customise orders with everything from wrappers to fillings. The quality of the products came in for praise, including the old fashioned paper bags used to package items.
Customers thought the sweets were good value for money (around £2.30 per quarter of a kilo in most cases) and the delivery charges of £3.95 were reasonable, especially for larger orders. In most cases delivery was fairly speedy and there was a tracking system in place with email updates to report on progress.
Some reviewers initially thought the site was a little cluttered and overwhelming, although when they moved onto individual pages they found it fairly easy to navigate. As mentioned, some customers thought prices were cheap but others felt they were a little expensive. However, they said that when this was weighed against the unavailability of the sweets elsewhere it made prices seem more reasonable. In addition, when ordering at busy times some customers did not get the next day delivery they had selected, something that is worth bearing in mind when ordering at times like Christmas or Valentine’s Day.
One concern, perhaps tongue in cheek, was that you might end up spending far more than you had anticipated. Sweet!
Sales & Promotions
A Quarter Of occasionally runs promotions on their Facebook page, such as £5 off a Large Wooden Box of Nostalgia (a pretty decent sized selection box) or 10 percent off all products. The company also ran a promotion for their 10th birthday where every order received a free copy of a reprinted first edition Whizzer & Chips from 1969. As promotions go that is certainly quite unique!
Coupon, Discount, and Voucher Codes
Vouchercodespro has run offers of a free bag of sweets on orders over £20, while Retailmenot has had discount codes of 15 percent off when you spend over £25. Hotukdeals has run similar deals but with 15 percent off on orders over £20, similarly run by Playpennies, who also offered codes for 20 percent off the Best Sweets You’ve Ever Tasted range.
The company says that typical delivery time is 3-4 working days from the date of placing an order but that they aim to have the goods arrive before this. Delivery costs from £1.97 per order with Royal Mail, regardless of the size. There is also an option to select Fedex Courier Delivery although this is slightly expensive, at £4.96 per order. Quicker delivery is also available (usually next working day). In cases where goods are temporarily out of stock delivery may take a little longer.
Refund & Returns Policy
Any products that customers wish to return can be sent back within 30 days by contacting the company by telephone or email. Items must be unused and contain the original packaging and components, including the despatch note. Some goods, such as those that are perishable, personalised or made to order cannot be returned (unless the items are faulty) as they cannot be resold. The company will refund the purchase price, but not delivery charges incurred returning the goods. Refunds will be made to the original payment card within 30 days of their receipt by the company.

The idea for A Quarter Of came out of a conversation among the founders of the company about the old sweets they had enjoyed when they were children. When they saw the reaction of their friends to the idea of getting to try those sweets again and when they found out that the manufacturers still made them they set about launching their online sweetshop to give people an opportunity to savour the same memories. The name of the company relates to the old-fashioned measures that shops used to sell sweets. In those days it was a quarter of a pound, although now the measure is a quarter of a kilo. Since launching in 2002 the company has delivered more than 455,000 orders and currently has over 650 different sweets available to buy.
